Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Location: 1 West, 129th Street, Apt 1, New York, NY, 10027
Schedule: [Full‑Time / Part‑Time / Per Diem / Shifts Available]
Pay Range: 17 to 24hr
Reports To: Program Supervisor / Manager
Job Summary
We are seeking compassionate and dependable Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their daily lives. DSPs empower individuals to live meaningful, independent, and engaged lives by providing personal care, skill development, and community integration support in accordance with individual service plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, hands-on support with daily living activities such as personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks
- Support individuals in achieving personal goals outlined in their Individual Service Plans (ISPs)
- Promote independence, dignity, choice, and self-advocacy
- Assist with community outings, recreation, employment, and social activities
- Administer or assist with medications as trained and authorized
- Observe, document, and report progress, behaviors, and any health or safety concerns
- Implement behavior support plans using positive and respectful strategies
- Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, families, and healthcare professionals
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum age requirement per state regulations (typically 18+)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (if transporting individuals)
- Ability to pass background checks, reference checks, and required screenings
- Basic computer and documentation skills
- Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills
- Prior experience in healthcare, human services, caregiving, or behavioral support is preferred but not required—training provided
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, transfer, and assist individuals as needed (with training and proper equipment)
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and engage in physical activity throughout shifts
