About Greenwich House:

Founded in 1902 as a settlement house to help New York’s increasing immigrant population adjust to life in a new country, Greenwich House today offers a variety of programs and approaches that continue to provide thousands of New Yorkers with health and wellness supports, education and personal enrichment, and skills building and cultural experiences. Greenwich House will launch the Workforce Training & Resource Center in Fall 2022, which is envisioned as a programming, support, and activity hub for partnerships that will bring a broader array of services to the West Side. The Center will focus on curating skills trainings and services for adults and older adults and build opportunities for meaningful intergenerational engagements.

Position Summary:

The Workforce Program Director will be responsible for the creation, launch, and implementation of the Workforce Training & Resource Center, including the research, communications and continuous improvement activities that will support the Center. The Director will contribute to and build off of strategy and planning work that has been underway. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness in identifying and securing the necessary internal and external resources to ensure efficient and effective execution of all workforce and training initiatives.

Key areas of focus for the Workforce Program Director include: creating linkages and partnerships with organizations currently offering robust, evidence-based skills training and work readiness programming; building and strengthening connections across Greenwich House departments to leverage existing expertise and programming; providing administrative oversight of the Workforce Training & Resource Center; coordinating data sharing and reporting amongst partners; and contributing to fundraising and resource development efforts to support and grow the Center. A strong candidate has successfully led workforce development initiatives and/or creative and dynamic adult development programs.

Primary Functions

  • Manage the GH Workforce and Training Resource Center.
  • Facilitate new partnership development, maintenance, and growth.
  • Lead the development, launch, and implementation of programs and supports offered by Greenwich House and affiliated partners.
  • Identify and evaluate innovative strategies and solutions to support divisional goals and help drive continuous improvement.
  • Cultivate and grow relationships with past, current, and potential workforce development students and partners, increasing program retention and completion.
  • Increase visibility of Greenwich House and the Workforce Training & Resource Center at relevant meetings and events.
  • Ensure accessibility of programs and supports to high-need populations (disability, older adult, ex-offender, behavioral health, and immigrants) that meet evolving needs.
  • Collaborate with Development staff to develop proposals and grant reports to address program needs and advance the reach of the work.

Secondary Functions

  • Work closely with executive staff and program directors at Greenwich House.
  • Ensure that required data and deliverables are maintained for all funding partners.
  • Use data to generate metrics from Greenwich House programs for various stakeholders, including the Executive Team, Board of Directors, government agencies, and constituents.
  • Ensure training of Workforce Development staff related to continuous improvement of services.

Administrative & Supervisory Functions

  • Plan, organize, and administer policies and procedures to ensure administrative and operational goals, objectives and performance measures are met.
  • Supervise staff affiliated with the Workforce Training & Resource Center to include, but not limited to, ongoing performance evaluation and professional development.
  • Participate in executive meetings, legislative preparation, and briefings to develop departmental goals and objectives and to ensure that executive staff, subordinate staff, and state legislators are informed of workforce development issues to provide improved customer services.
  • Develop, manage, and implement program budgets.
  • Review and approve bills or delegate approving authority for bills related to payments of a variety of local and central office costs, such as for telephones, computers, and other fees.
  • Perform other duties assigned to ensure flexibility and adaptability to meet changing agency needs.


  • A minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience leading and advancing workforce development initiatives or older-adult programs and supports (experiences in both areas a plus).
  • A creative and entrepreneurial problem-solver, with experience launching new programs and projects with a diverse group of stakeholders including government, philanthropy, business and community groups.
  • Skilled in writing, reviewing, and recommending operational and administrative policies/procedures; organizational structure; staffing plans; personnel allocation and distribution; and budgeting.
  • Previous project management experience including managing multiple projects at one time in a high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and planning skills with an ability to prioritize, drive and complete multiple projects under stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to synthesize information and identify key questions, issues, and solutions.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing program and research data to inform ongoing strategy and able to present data in tabular, pictorial, and graphic form as appropriate.
  • Proven excellence as a communicator; able to represent the Executive Team and Greenwich House at large with stakeholders (clients, customers, vendors, Board members, regulators, etc.).
  • Ability to “lead up”, an eager listener, learner, and teacher.
  • Enjoys working independently on projects and can work under pressure at times to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.

In order to protect our staff and to provide safe and reliable services to our clients, students, members, program participants, and the communities that we serve, as of October 29, 2021, we are requiring all Greenwich House and Barrow Street Nursery School new hires to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to their start date. We will consider exceptions for religious and medical reasons, where appropriate. “Fully vaccinated” means you must have both doses of a 2-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the second dose, or have received 1 dose of a 1-dose vaccine and two weeks have elapsed since the dose. Proof of vaccination status must be submitted prior to your start date and includes CDC Vaccine Card, NYS Excelsior Pass, NYC Vaccination Record, and other official Vaccine Record.
